Hello,

We are using QB Desktop Premier Professional 2017.  As the company has changed banks and the related credit card company, I'd like to update the default card on PAY BILLS account to be the NEW card not the old.  I cannot find where to do this.  I am changing the Method to Credit Card and the old card shows first.  I have to change to the correct card each time.

Thanks in advance.

Hi dtcl10!

It's good to see you in the Community. I'm happy to share information about the default payment accounts for paying bills.

Normally, QuickBooks will remember the last account you chose on your last bill payment (pay bill) transaction. It should be a completed (saved) transaction so the software can remember it. You can try creating a dummy bill payment and see the effect on the next bill payment.

If QuickBooks still automatically shows your old card, you can do the Verify and Rebuild data utilities to check for data issues causing this and to fix them. Or, you can inactivate the old card after reconciliation. You won't be using it anyway.

Inactivate the credit card account:

  1. Go to Lists and choose Chart of Accounts.
  2. Right-click on the old card, and choose Edit account.
  3. Tick the Account is inactive checkbox and click Save & Close.

Let me know if you need further assistance with your transactions,. Take care and have a good one!
