The question I have is the following.  How do I transact this in Quickbooks?

Catered launch party - 40people, 4 of which were my family.  Total cost = $2k

Vendor wants to be paid by Zelle.  With the 50% tax deduction rule for entertainment, what is the cleanest way to transact this in Quickbooks?

I'd be delighted to help you record the transactions, mmalone1973.

Let's begin by making expense accounts in QuickBooks Online (QBO). Then use them when you write a check, pay bills, or charge your credit card for the catering event.

Before we proceed, I recommend consulting with an accountant to determine the category type and instructions on how to apply the 50% tax deduction rule for entertainment. Once you have all of the information, proceed to set up the accounts one at a time.

Here's how:

  1. Navigate to the Accounting menu on the left panel and choose Chart of accounts.
  2. Click the New menu in the upper right to open the New account window.
  3. From there, select the Expenses icon and fill in the field boxes with the correct information.
  4. Tap the Save button to keep the newly created account.

Afterward, use the newly created accounts when you write checks or bills for your catering entries. These resources offer detailed information on creating accounts and managing your expenses:
