Scheduling payment fails when trying to make a partial payment on a large balance

I am tracking a large loan inside QB (400k+). When I want to sent what would be a partial payment (3k) using the "schedule payment" feature, it constantly errors with "We can’t schedule the bills you selected" likely thinking I am trying to pay the entire amount at once, even though I am not.

We hear you, @falnos24865. I'll share some information about the reasons why you're experiencing this and then direct you to the best help.

It is very crucial to review the payment information before sending it since this can lead to an error in scheduling it. Also, QuickBooks (QB) Bill Pay currently supports US Dollar currency only.

If you used workflows or roles permission features, ensure the bill is approved, and you have permission to pay it. For detailed information, consider visiting this article: Learn about QuickBooks Bill Pay for QuickBooks Online.

Additionally, like any other accounts payable services, it is important to know they set payment processing limits to protect you from suspicious activity. This will be based on payment history, risk profiles, and other factors.

If everything is fine and the issue persists, I recommend getting in touch with QB Bill Pay support so they can review your limit and check the status of your account.

This way, they can point out the root cause of the error and direct you to the best way to resolve it. Here's how:

  1. From the upper right corner beside the Horn icon, click the Help tab.
  2. Select Search and enter a description of the error in the provided field below. Then, press Enter on your keyboard.
  3. Go to Contact Us.
  4. Scroll down and choose Chat or Callback to connect with us.

Our support is available from Monday to Friday 6 AM - 6 PM (PT) only.

You might want to spontaneously pair up your QB Bill Pay and Payments transactions in QuickBooks Online. Check out this article: Automatically match QuickBooks Online product transactions.

After contacting support the solution is you simply can't make partial payments on large bills. So I must split the bill into multiple smaller ones.

You can use Melio to sync with QBO and pay the partial payments easily. Melio will automatically track your remaining balance after each partial payment.

@falnos24865

Try opening your QBO account on any private/incognito browser.

I have tried that. After contacting support it appears QBO payments simply do not support making partial payments on a large bill. It's silly, but I have to split the bill into multiple smaller ones even though I am only making partial payments.
