I have been getting this error:

"There was an error communicating with the QuickBooks Payments Service.  Please try again later."

for 3 MONTHS since buying the software. I was told I could take payments using a "merchant services" features and have been unable to do so. What is going on with this issue? Intuit ONLY made $8.8 billion in 2020, you think they could hire a software engineer to solve this problem if it's been ongoing for 3 MONTHS.

Hi there, @Need223.

I hear you and realize the importance of being able to process payments through Merchant Services.

I'd like you to know that our engineers are still working to identify the reason behind the error "There was an error communicating with the QuickBooks Payments Service.  Please try again later." when enabling the ACH e-invoice option.

For now, to get your work done, you may consider processing credit card payments within your QuickBooks for Mac company file.

To do that:

  1. Go to the Customers menu.
  2. Choose Receive Payment to apply the payments to an invoice.
  3. Enter the customer and transaction information.
  4.  Select the credit card Payment Method (Pmt. Method).
  5. Click OKCharge, or Save to process the transaction.
  6. If you select Visa, MC, AMEX, or Discover, type the credit card info in the displayed window and press the Process option.

You can also check this link for more information: Process a credit card payment in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

On the other hand, to be updated with the latest status of this hurdle, I recommend contacting our Payments Team. This way, you'll be notified once any updates about this matter are made available.

Please visit this support link to get in touch with them: QuickBooks Desktop with Payments.

Your patience and understanding in this situation are much appreciated.

Let me know if there's anything else that I can assist you with. I'll be around for you. Keep safe!

I've been having this problem, too. The bug/issue identifier is INV-48693, which apparently lots of people with QB for Mac are affected by. Intuit is refusing to provide any sort of information about if/when this will be fixed.

This appears to be fixed now with Quickbooks for Mac 2021 R5 (Build 20.0.4).

I am still having this problem linking payments a month after signing up and a month of attempting to chat with QB Desktop support for Mac that also does NOT WORK. Seeking other bookkeeping software.

I'm still having an issue getting this to work for me... receiving:

There was an error communicating with the Payments Service. -5000

I've updated my QB and when I try to log in to the QB payment website I get a spinning blue circle.

February 3, 2022

I have recently started having this issue.  My QB is up to date.  I'm running the desktop version on a Mac, and I spent 3 hours on the phone with various people last week, to find this week a new issue.  I've restarted everything. Signed in, logged out, stood on my head and now searching for a new answer.  Please help.  We live in a world of instant, and clients want things instantly.

TIA!

Hey there, @Dcinteriors.

Thanks for chiming in on this thread. I can point you in the right direction to get this problem resolved.

Even though you've contacted support already, the best route for them is to escalate the issue if they can find a solution. Let's get in touch with them again and see what else they can do. Here's how;

  1. Go to the Help menu.
  2. Pick the QuickBooks Desktop Help option.
  3. Hit the Contact Us hyperlink.
  4. Enter your question or concern and tap Let's talk
  5. Scroll down and select to Get callback

That's all there is to it!

Keep us posted on what your next steps are and how they resolved it. We're always here to have your back. Have a great day!

@Candice C  There is no "QuickBooks Desktop Help" option under the help menu. There is an option for "QuickBooks Help" but it leads to a support page with no option to contact support.
