WARNING!!! Do not use QuickBook Checking/Payments - awful experience

We decided to use QuickBooks for our newly started company and what a colossal mistake that was. After QB approved our application for a checking account and to receive online payments, our first client duly paid a 5 digit sum via the generated link. At that point, QB cancelled our account without informing us and kept the money in their account. We only found out after a week when the money was still not deposited into our bank. After days of pleading on the phone and messages, we had a collection of contradictory information and still no answers. At this point, as far as we can tell from piecing everything together, QB has made a decision to terminate our account (and that they don't have to and won't explain why) and that the payment was being held indefinitely. That's correct - they wouldn't return it to the payer, they wouldn't release it to us and perhaps most importantly, they wouldn't tell us why or for how long or how it will be resolved. They just kept our money. It has now been over two weeks and we have received zero communication on the matter.

There seems to be no recourse - one of the assistants told us we should have read T&Cs where apparently QB reserves the right to keep our money indefinitely. Another one told me that their manager is busy and will only call me back later - I waited 6 hours. When I called again and said I need to speak to them now because I need to get to a flight to a wedding half way across the world, he told me that if I want to speak to their manager, I should reschedule my flight. I left my phone with a colleague - the manager never called. When my colleague called back next day, another assistant said there is no manager to speak to.

We are now scrambling to borrow money to pay our supplier. We don't know when or if we will receive the payment. This experience is likely to drive us out of business before we even got properly started. This has truly been one of the most stressful and awful experiences I've had. I would strongly urge everyone to avoid QB checking and payment services and honestly QB altogether.

I completely relate!!!! Stay away from these guys!!

My encounter with QuickBooks has been an absolute disaster. I opted to explore their services for my small business, only to find myself filled with profound regret. It not only strained my client relationship but also, instead of reaping profits from a project, I ended up losing a substantial sum of money!!!"

Similarly, QuickBooks initially approved my application, granting access to services like a checking account and online payment processing. However, things took a sharp turn for the worse when, after a client made a significant payment through their link, QuickBooks abruptly terminated my account without warning. They then retained the payment, leaving me completely in the dark about the fate of my hard-earned money.

Despite numerous calls and messages pleading for assistance, I received conflicting information and zero answers from QuickBooks.

In light of my experience, I strongly caution others against using QuickBooks' checking and payment services, or even QuickBooks as a whole. It's been a disheartening journey that I wouldn't wish on anyone.

Sadly, this is the game that QB plays.  There are a LARGE number of threads from those that have had the same experiences.  (You can find most by using the Search bar at the top of the page, here)

QB HAS to return you r money.  But sadly, they will continue to hold it, so that they can make money off of it.  Seems  that most that they have done this to have had to wait approx 270 days, when QB has no choice but to released it.  The thing is, they give it to your state.  You then have to turn around and collect it from your state.

It's all rather ridiculous, dishonest and fraudulent.

I recommend that you file complaints everywhere that you can think of. BBB, FTC, your States Attorney General)  After you do that, leave reviews EVERYWHERE!!  Help get the word out, about just how bad QB has gotten.

Also, a few posters have gotten results by posting on the QB social media accounts.

Good luck to you both.

This is honestly madness. I can't believe this is happening. How can this make any business sense?
Thanks for the advise, I will heed it, but currently feel extremely powerless and cheated.

Did you ever get your money back? I am going through THIS EXACT experience right now, and quite honestly fed up with QuickBooks and Intuit. Because my account closed, funds are just sitting there and I opted to have my clients receive their payments back so I can continue business elsewhere. Well they will not release the funds and thus affecting my business relationship with my clients as I have to continue doing business out of my own pocket and asking for an additional payment from my clients!

As a new father and business owner, this absolutely affects my pocket! I was also told that my clients would receive their payments back in 5-7 business days. And after speaking with a rep today (8 business days later), I was told there is no official timeline for my clients to receive payment! I cannot believe a business can get away with just holding $$ as they collect interest off of it. There whole reason for not sending yet is because they are waiting in the case there are disputes on the charges. Its been 3 weeks for the charges and no, there haven't been any. So why are we still waiting?

This sounds like there needs to be a class action lawsuit against them    I had a horrible experience with quick books online bookkeeping!!

I was going to move a substantial amount of money into the QB Checking Account I just set up. After reading this thread, I believe I'll rethink that decision!

Wow, after reading this I will be closing the quickbooks checking account I just opened last night. I can't risk that quickbooks might keep any of our funds. I only signed up because I thought that if our customers paid our invoices through it that there wasn't a fee but I just got off the phone with a representative and we will still be charged a $15 fee for customer deposits so there is no need to keep this account and risk losing money.

Yes, absolutely agree.  I have lost 3/4 of my business funds because they closed my Quickbooks checking account.  I have been without those funds for 6 months now, and don't know where to turn.  The only lawyer I have found to help me wants 1/3 of the amount owed to me.  I think an FBI investigation is in order.

Thank you for posting this I was interested in the 5% apy for my business funds but after reading all this there is no way I could feel safe putting my funds in there account I can’t imagine not having access to my business funds for more then a week it could potentially bankrupt my company. Even if they got better and didn’t close another account there’s a scar on this now that I can’t ever in my right mind put money in there account I just made an account and I’ll be calling tomorrow to close it

April 21, 2024

I guess that's how they are finding the 5% APY.

The canned response from the Quickbooks Team Members here are sorely lacking. I expected like a level "god" customer representative to hop on and provide a meaningful and decisive response. I have been in threads with very fraught situations, where a customer service member chimes in but then takes the affected party to a side chat and gives them meaningful help, such as  links, phone numbers and case numbers to REALLY follow up. The information they are giving here is the exact same number and link we ALL use... that's really pathetic!!! I was about to click on the link to open a bank account and after reading some of this I think I will keep my current setup.

May 4, 2024

Wow.  They are even  worse than I thought based on all of your responses. No closed account but I was going to warn everyone that once mobile deposit is approved you you can only deposit 10 checks a month by mobile deposit and there is no manual deposit.  They take 10 days to process so it's not like they are taking a risk.

We get about 40 checks per month (and growing) so it's simply ridiculous.

The green dot service rep was making it up as she went but it seems pretty clear that we have to move banks.  How annoying.

Going to check out square.  Agree completely with the title of this thread.

Same experience here. I opened up an account and successfully connected my checking account to it.  When I tried to initiate a transfer from my checking account to the new Quickbooks Checking account it failed, so I initiated an ACH from my bank.  Later that day after when I checked my Quickbooks Checking account, I saw that it was on hold with $0 balance, meanwhile the amount that I had transferred was gone from my main checking account.  When I contacted Quickbooks support, I got conflicting answers as to why it was on hold. One person told me that the checking account was closed and that I would have to contact Green Dot Bank as to why that is the case. Another told me that Merchant Services had closed the account for unspecified reasons. Yet another person said that the reason it was closed is because they did not have enough information to open the account and that someone would reach out to me.  The good news is that the transfer was rejected and returned back to my bank account after 3 days, but certainly does not inspire confidence- especially after reading about all of the experiences here. I am currently on hold to get down to the bottom of why the account was closed, but seriously reconsidering it based on all of the experiences here.  What a cluster****...

May 19, 2024

Wow.. unbelievable. Esp that the thread has been open since October 2023, and more cases are popping up in April/May 2024. I just opened an account and set up envelopes, but I think I'll just go ahead to close it. My bank puts hold on large deposits too, but at least I know I get it after several business days and they won't just close my bank account!!

Thank you to those who have been posting about their experience.

Worst of the worst! I completely agree with the scammy part. Overpromise, underdeliver. Between quickbooks and credit karma, if you use either of these, these people have an abundance of your personal information that they can, will and do sell to third parties. Quickbooks Online, besides the fact that its a useless pile of garbage, collects your bank account information, credit card info, etc. These crooks know where you shop, what you buy, your interests, how much you make, your SSN, DL, family members, where you went to school and a whole lot more. And if you think these people aren't selling your info, you're crazy. I strongly suggest dropping anything to do with Intuit and do it quickly.
