Where did the 'make payment' button go?

On quickbooks online, I am recording a vendor payment, with a vendor credit included. To do this I clicked new, bill pay, then the vendor I'm recording payment for. Usually in the upper right corner there is a button that says 'make payment'. But now I'm seeing two different buttons. 'schedule online payment' and 'mark as paid'. Where did the 'make payment' option go?

Hello @pigeon.

I’ll be sharing information about the missing option from the bill pay feature.

The option “make payment” in QuickBooks Online was changed a few months ago to Schedule Online Payment. You can select the option mark as paid when making a bill payment.

I’m attaching an article for future reference about applying multiple bills and multiple vendors at the same time in QBO: Enter and pay bills.

I appreciate the screenshot you've provided, @pigeon.

You may have enabled your Online Bill Pay feature. You can turn this off by canceling it in your account settings.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear Icon.
  2. Choose Account and Settings.
  3. Select the Bill Pay menu.
  4. Click the Cancel subscription link.
  5. Follow the on-screen instruction to complete the process.

You can refer to this article for more insights about Online Bill Pay

On the other hand, if you don't want to cancel the online bill pay feature, here's how you can manually pay the bill:

  1. Go to the Expenses menu.
  2. Select the Expenses tab.
  3. Locate the Bill transaction you want to pay.
  4. From the Action column, click the drop-down.
  5. Choose Make Payment.
  6. Enter the payment details to complete the process.

Always feel free to leave your comments below if you have other questions about using credits in paying your vendor balance. I'm always here to help.

Thank you for the reply! I don't want to cancel the online bill pay feature, so tried to manually pay the bill. I went to the Expenses menu, selected the Expenses tab, and located the Bill transaction I want to pay, but I do not see the Make Payment option. Attached is the drop-down I see when I try and pay the bill for 200.39.

Hello there, @Cmckay.

I'm here to assist you in resolving the issue with the missing "Make payment" button in QuickBooks Online.

The options you can see in Action drop-drown will depend on what tab you'll select.  On the Vendors tab, you can see the make payment option, create bill, create expense, and schedule payment. While on the Expenses tab, you can see schedule payment, mark as paid, view/edit, copy, delete, and void.

Moreover, if you'll select checks, bill payment (check), and expenses, you can only see view/edit, delete or void. Make sure that the type of transaction you'll select is a bill. This way you'll get to see the mark as paid in the dropdown button.

However, if you already clicked "bill" and the mark as paid button doesn't show, we can perform basic troubleshooting.

Here' how:

Let's log in to your account thru a private window.

Here are the keyboard shortcuts:

  • Safari: Command + Shift + N
  • Google Chrome: CTRL + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge: CTRL + Shift + P

Otherwise, let's clear the cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online in your browser.

You might want to learn about tracking your bill in a detailed way. You can read through this article: Record a bill payment by EFT, ATM card, or debit card.

If you require any further assistance with make payment and mark as paid buttons, you can reply to this post. Take care and have a great day!
