I’ll be happy to assist you with recording the overpayment you’re customer accidentally made. This way, you can match the transaction showing up on your banking page in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

If you linked your Zelle application to QBO, we can record this refund. Beforehand, I’d like to share this information in case you encounter similar concerns in the future. You can record a refund to your customer using a Check or Expense if:

• They want to redeem their open credits.
• They made a prepayment for an order but canceled it before receiving the goods or services.
• They want you to reimburse an accidental overpayment.

To counterbalance the customer's open credit, overpayment, or prepayment, use a Check or Expense to record the refund. This lowers your bank's balance.

To record the refund for your customer, you can follow the steps below:

1. Tap the + New button and select the option you want to use by recording the refund; either Expense, Add expense or Check.
2. Choose the customer you’re refunding from the Payee dropdown.
3. Select the bank account where you deposited the overpayment from the Payment account dropdown.
4. Select the Account Receivable on the first line of the Category column. Then, enter how much you have refunded under the Amount field.
5. Complete the details needed, then select Save and close.

From then, you can start categorizing your transactions and reconciling them to double-check any discrepancies and ensure your accounts are balanced.
