If I forgot to claim the Tax-Free Threshold for an employee. Can I get the tax back once it has been paid?

I paid my employees yesterday, but have missed 2 employees who I forgot to check "Tax Free Threshold"

Hi theburdekinacade,

 

You can try and update the Tax File Declaration and redo the pay run or you need to speak to the ATO directly for that. 

 

Here's how to update your employee's Tax File Declaration: 

 

  1. Select Employees, then select the employee name from the home page.
  2. Select Tax File Declaration under Employee Settings.
  3. Once you've enabled or disabled the necessary options, click on Save

 

After that, you can unlock the pay run by following these steps. 

 

  1. Go to Employees tab and select Pay Runs.
  2. Open the pay run.
  3. On Pay Run Actions, select Unlock.
  4. You can click on Actions and select Recalculate.

Note: A pay run cannot be unlocked or deleted if automated super payments have been made from the pay run. 

 

Unlocking a pay run allows you to edit, delete and enter necessary adjustment on it. If the amounts showing on the pay run for those two employees, you can select refinalise it by clicking on Finalise Pay Run button. And then create and lodge an update event to have the employee's YTD be updated.
