Question

System recorded deposits for QuickBooks. QBO states the category as "Uncategorized". This category field is not editable. How do I change the category?

Hi aniz-premiuminno,

 

Thanks for reaching out here.  It's important that you're able to categorize your transactions in QuickBooks Online in a timely fashion.  I'd be glad to help!

 

After downloading your bank and credit card transactions, you'll see them in the For review tab in the Banking feature and have the option to match, add, or view multiple matches.  Here's a helpful guide, for your reference.  To change the category on a bank deposit, follow these steps;

 

1. Open + New from the left menu and select Bank Deposit

2. Hit the history icon in the top left (looks like a clock)

3. Click on the deposit you need to change, or scroll down and open View more, to see the list

4. Select the deposit to open it

5. Use the ▼ dropdown menu in the Account column to select the appropriate account

6. Hit Save and close

 

You can also edit the transaction from the chart of accounts.  Here's how;

 

1. Open your Settings ⚙ and select Chart of accounts

2. Locate the associated account and click on Account history in the Action column

3. Set a Filter to narrow your search

4. Click on the transaction to expand the view

5. Select Edit

6. Make the necessary changes and hit Save and close
