I'd be glad to help you set up your account to fit your organisation's needs, @iremidecoop-gmai. I'll help share a few insights on how we can turn your QuickBooks account into a non-profit organisation.

Let’s start from changing your company type to a Nonprofit Organisation as your Tax form from the Account and Settings.

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Account and settings.
  2. In Company type, select the pencil icon.
  3. Select the Advanced tab and click Edit in Company type..
  4. On the Tax form ▼ dropdown, select Nonprofit organization (Form 990).
  5. Select Save, then Done.

You’ll also need to change your customers into donors. For the step-by-step process, check out this article: Configure an account for a nonprofit organization. This is based from the US, however, it functions the same with global version of QuickBooks.

After that, please make sure to sign out and log back in to QuickBooks Online. Through this, we’ll be able to see the changes including the terms, reports, and forms used by NPO reflected throughout your account.

Once done, let’s proceed to creating a liability account to track grants and expenses. For more details, you can refer to this resource: Track funds you receive from donors in QuickBooks Online. References for non-profit organisation isn’t available with global version yet, that’s why this article may appear to be for customers in the US.

I also recommend seeking expert advice from an accountant. By doing so, we'll be able to ensure the correct accounts are affected.

I’ve also included this reference in case you’ll want to generate some reports to see your company’s financial health: Run reports in QuickBooks Online.
