Question

How can I run a general ledger from 2022? I always get a message that there's no data available. Thank you.

We can explore troubleshooting options to help display the data on your General Ledger report in QuickBooks Online (QBO), Shop.

First, verify that the date range selection is correct as well as the accounting method and applied filters. To do that:

    1. Go to Reports and search General Ledger.
    2. Click Customise.
    3. In the Report Period dropdown, select Custom and enter the date from 2022.
    4. Choose between Cash and Accrual in the Accounting Method section.
    5. Click the Filter dropdown and review the applied filters.
    6. Select Run Report.

In some cases, the General Ledger report will not display due to its large size and volume of data. To resolve this, you'll want to export it to Excel since it can handle larger data sets. Refer to this article for the complete guide: Fix a report that is too large to display.

Alternatively, QBO stores local cache files, which can become outdated and need occasional clearing to ensure optimal performance. The missing information in your General Ledger could be a result of this, so I recommend accessing your account in an incognito window to rule out the possibility of a browser issue. Please see the following keyboard shortcuts:

    • For Google Chrome browser: Ctrl + Shift + N
    • For Mozilla Firefox browser: Ctrl + Shift + P
    • For Safari browser: Command + Shift + N

Once resolved, return to your default browser and clear its cache to refresh the page or use a different supported browser.

Moreover, you can save a report's current customisation settings for future use by memorising them.
