Question

I have revenue collection in quarterly basis but expenses monthly. How do I see a report with revenue prorated across months? Otherwise month one shows cash rich.

Since revenue (all invoices are on month 1, month 1 shows very cash rich and doesn't give a real picture. It settles down at end of quarter but the reports during the quarter don't give a real picture.

Thanks for posting here, @gans,

The reports in QuickBooks will display data based on the Account method indicated on the report.

If you follow accrual accounting, revenue or expenses are reported when a transaction occurs (invoices are created) rather than when payment is received or made. Otherwise, for cash basis accounting, payments are realized during the period in which they are received, and expenses are recorded in the period in which they are actually paid.

Since the collection is made quarterly, this will also reflect the reports in QBO. We cannot customize the report to show prorated income in this case. See this:

If you want to distribute the income monthly, you can export QuickBooks reports and modify the data in there. To do that, use the Export option to create an Excel worksheet out of the data in the program.
