Hello there. Now that I'm here, I'll share the best way to run a profit and loss report and how you can compare them from your previous period's P&L report in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Before anything else, know that I agree with what you've said. Running a Profit and Loss Comparison report is the best way to achieve this and get the accurate data you need for your business. You can run and set it to Custom so you can get two different data from different profit and loss report periods. I'll gladly input the steps below so you can proceed and complete your tasks. To begin, here's how:

  1. Access your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. On the left navigational bar, go to the Reports tab.
  3. In the search bar, type Profit and Loss Comparison as your keyword.
  4. Choose Custom below the Report period field.
  5. Input the correct start date and end date.
  6. Go to Compare another period section, and then heck the box for Previous Period (PP).
  7. Input the start date and end date of the report period that you want to compare.
  8. Once done, click Run report.

If you want to add other details to your report, you can click the Customise button. Visit this article for further guidelines on how to customise a report in QBO: Customise reports in QuickBooks Online.

In addition, I've got you this article in case you'd like to send the report to your accountant: Set schedule and email information for a memorised report.

You can also check this page to know what custom reports available in QBO: Common custom reports in QuickBooks Online.
