Question

The previous person responsible for my account did not keep good records. I have copies of the old bank statements. What is the best way to enter these onto Quickbooks?

What kind of file format do you have? *.csv, *.qbo, *.pdf ?

Good day, finance185.

The best way to enter them is to import the bank transactions as a CSV file. This will let you record multiple entries at once. You can download a CSV copy from your bank's website or convert the existing file using a converter app that you can find online.

Just make sure to follow the suggested format that's provided in this article: Format CSV files in Excel to Get Bank Transactions into QuickBooks.

Then, follow these steps on how to import them:

  1. Go to the Transactions or Banking menu and select Banking
  2. If the account is already connected, click on it. Then, click the drop-down list for Link account and select Upload from file.
  3. If you have not connected the account, click Upload transactions.
  4. Select Drag and drop or select files and then select the file you downloaded from your bank. Then select Continue.
  5. In the QuickBooks account ▼  dropdown menu, select the account you want to upload the transactions into.
  6. Click Continue. and follow the succeeding prompts on how to map the transaction and import the file.

Here's an article about this process for more details: Manually Upload Transactions into QuickBooks Online.

Don't hesitate to reply to me and let me know if that helped you record the older bank transactions. You can also ask follow-up questions if you still need more help with this.
