daily sales recording when there is both taxable and non taxable items in a retail envirnoment

I am trying to set up a daily sales receipt for end of day recording from the tills of a pharmacy where there are both taxable and non taxable items.  I set it up according to the tutorial but when the amounts were entered, it asked for the sales tax percentage to be entered for proper calculation. There are many transactions over the day's sales so it seems the tutorial was not appropriate for our situation.  Any suggestions?

You can enter a sales receipt to report your total daily sales if you use a separate Point of Sale system or if you don't invoice customers. This process will help keep your income reports accurate.

First, you'll need to create a customer for daily sales.

Here's how:

  1. In the left navigation bar, go to Sales, then Customers.
  2. Choose New customer, then enter "Daily Sales".
  3. Click Save.

Next, make sure your Daily Sales accounts are set up properly:

  1. Use the Gear (⚙️) icon on your Toolbar.
  2. Under Your Company, pick Chart of Accounts.
  3. Select New at the top right.
  4. Create the following accounts:

Now you can begin setting up your items and template to start recording daily sales.
