Hi Peter,

I'll be happy to show you how to do a journal entry in QuickBooks Online for a closed period. I know how useful it is to be able to make your entries and keep your books accurate. In case you’ve never created a journal entry before, it’s only a few quick steps.

  1. Select + New.
  2. Choose Journal Entry.
  3. Fill out the fields to create your journal entry.
  4. Select Save and new or Save and close.

If you’re trying to enter a journal entry within a closed period in QuickBooks Online, you'll receive a prompt message or password request depending on how you closed your books in the settings. In that case, you can just enter your password to completely save the transaction or click on yes to confirm you read the message. If you don't want to view a prompt each time you do a journal entry for a closed period, you can re-open your books. Here's how to do that.

  1. Select the Gear icon.
  2. Choose Account and Settings.
  3. Navigate to the Advanced tab.
  4. Click the pencil icon in the Accounting section.
  5. Deselect the Close the books box to turn off this feature.
  6. Click Save.

I hope this helps you get back on track. Have a great day!
