Question

Has anyone set up chart of accounts for a coffee roasting/wholesale company? Do I need a unique sales item for each package size of the same coffee variety?

Example might be I have 1000 lbs of ESPRESSO coffee beans for sale. I sell them in 454g, 340g and 100g sizes/packages. Should I create a separate SKU for each size of the same coffee?

QBO doesn't offer the unit measurements feature. Consider having a 3rd party app with such feature to integrate with your QBO. Otherwise, consider switching to QB Desktop Premier. You can still buy the outright license for QB Desktop 2021 Premier from several partners to lower your cost.

Would it make sense to create a SKU for each variety * size? I agree online is costly and we may choose a different platform but I have 2 locations and want access at both. Can desktop accomplish that?

If you only need to manage a small number of sales product variations, you can do that. But you'll be adjusting your inventory manually and it might be a headache later. The built-in inventory features in QBO are limited. When you need unit of measure and matrix inventory feature, you'll need an additional app.

You may have 2 or more company files at no additional cost to manage on QB Desktop. You can run QB Desktop separately on each location or set up a simple private cloud solution to allow the second location to access file(s) at the first location via the internet.
