We receive customer payments made by the parent account which payments need to be applied to invoices in multiple children's accounts. Can QBO record one lump sum payment into the parent account and automatically split the amount among multiple children's accounts and apply to invoices?

Hi there carol-li-brainsi,

It's vital that all your transactions are correctly entered so that your customer balances are correct. QuickBooks Online is a great tool that's able to let you keep track of invoices so that you know how much your customers owe you. I can provide some information about creating sub-customers in QuickBooks Online.

In order to add a sub-customer in QuickBooks Online, you can do so by navigating to the Sales tab, then the Customers section. Select the New Customer option, then add the details of the sub-customer. Check the Is sub-customer option, and select the customer you want to have as the main customer for this sub-customer. In order to have the invoices affect the main customer, make sure to have the option set to Bill to parent and not Bill this customer. here is some more information about adding customers in QuickBooks Online.

in order to invoice this sub-customer, make sure to select this specific sub-customer in the Customer drop-down of your invoice. When it comes time to pay invoices for a client that has multiple sub-clients, navigate to the Sales tab, then Customers. Find the main customer from within the list, then click on the option to Receive Payment. This will allow you to check all the invoices that affect the sub-customers of this client in order to make one payment to pay them all.
