Question

How do I create a Statement for a single project? I do not want the Statement to include all projects under a particular customer.

Hi there edsmith,

I can absolutely see the value in printing a statement for a single project rather than the customer to whom the project is attributed. This would help give a clearer sense of which transactions are applied where and what's owed for one project. I'll go over this.

Statements are a great way to communicate with your customers and make sure everyone is on the same page about what's due or even which transactions they had within a given time. At present, QuickBooks Online groups all transactions for a customer, including those from individual projects, under one statement. There isn't a way to filter for a single project, so I have some workarounds you can consider.

The first workaround I have for you is to create a statement outside of QuickBooks Online to send to your customer through your email provider. You could use Word or some other program perhaps to type it up and send it to them. I know this isn't ideal, however, so I have a couple other suggestions.

Another workaround you can consider is running a report to list the transactions related to a given project and then send the customer the report. You could also use this to find the transactions you would need to include on a statement you're creating manually elsewhere. With something like the Transaction List by Customer report, you can filter down the report to include only transactions for a project and then customize it further to only show columns that would be relevant to your customers. You can run this report through the Reports tab and then click Customize to view the filter options. This article can help you get familiar with how to customize if you're unsure: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online

The final workaround I have for you is to consider third-party services or apps that might be able to create a statement for you. Through the Apps tab, you can search and learn more about the available partner applications that can pair with QuickBooks Online and enhance what you can do with the program.

At the end of all this, I encourage you to submit feedback to our product development team using these steps: How do I submit feedback? I think you have a great idea about being able to create statements for individual projects and it'd be a useful addition to the program. Comments left through the feedback feature are forwarded to the development team for consideration in future updates to the program.

I hope this has been helpful. I'll be around should you have more questions. :)
