Question

How do I remove a sales tax agency that my client never reports to? Currently they have Revenu Quebec and the Ministry of Finance that they do not report to?

    Hello Debbie,

     

    It's great to hear that you're working with your clients in QuickBooks Online. Being able to filter out the information you're not using is a good way to organize your books and make sure you're only dealing with the information you need. I'll go over how the sales tax centre works in QuickBooks Online.

     

    Once you've set up a sales tax agency in QuickBooks Online, there isn't a way to make it inactive, even if it's not being used and has never been used. In light of that, I recommend that you and your client simply ignore these options when adding sales tax to forms or working in the sales tax module.

    Invoices show Tax Agency name as default instead of Tax Rate name on invoices. There's no way to change it. When trying to edit the Tax Agency name, it actually only edits the Tax Rate name. Why can't we just be able to change this as required? If I enter VAT as my Tax Rate name it automatically changes the Agency field to include the word Agency after the word VAT. So now my invoices show VAT Agency underneath the totals and subtotals.

     

    The name of my Tax should just be called VAT. How do I achieve that? How do I avoid the word Agency being added after the word VAT all the time?

    Hi @Debbie Venne CPA CGA , actually you can't remove tax agencies in QBO, but you can deactivate it. 

    Note: If you don't see the settings below, you may be using Auto Sales Tax feature. (You can see article below how to set up auto sales tax feature).

    To deactivate a tax rate:

    Important! You will NOT be able to reactivate a tax rate. If you need it for future use, you’ll have to create a new one.

    1. Select Taxes from the left menu.
    2. In the Sales Tax Center, go to the Related Tasks section and select Add/edit tax rates and agencies.
    3. Select a tax rate name then select Deactivate.
    4. Select Continue on the dialog box.
