For example under Accounting preferences in Payroll set up - Bank Account - there is an account set up, click on the arrow to change it but there is no reference to your own chart of accounts - how can you change that ? Thanks

Hi perfectfindacctg,

It's great to see you taking advantage of the time-saving QuickBooks Online Payroll module. I can help you set up your Payroll preferences, so you can get to doing something you love.

To edit the bank account for your payroll, follow these simple steps:

  • Go to the Gear Icon on the upper right-hand side.
  • Select Payroll Settings.
  • Under Preferences, choose Accounting.
  • Click on Customize.
  • When you click the dropdown arrow by the bank account, you should have a window open that lists all the accounts set as Bank in your Chart of Accounts, which you can see in the images below.

  • Select the Bank Account you want to use for payroll, and click Ok.
  • The next screen will ask if you want the account to apply to past transactions or future transactions only. Click Update and then Ok.

If this is not what you're seeing, check your browser's security settings to see if you have a pop-up blocker enabled that is preventing the account window from opening. Also, do some browser troubleshooting as your cache and cookies may need to be cleared.

Follow these steps, checking in between to see if the issue has been resolved:

In the case that you're still not able to proceed, I suggest you reach out to a support agent. They'll get specific details that can't be shared in a public forum like QuickBooks Community.
