Question

I do trust accounting for lawyers. Is there a way to show the payment type (cheque/cash/direct deposit/etfr/etc on the journal or GL report?

Thanks for reaching out to the QuickBooks Community, @c-masson.

I can walk you through the steps to customize your report. Please note that you can only include the payment method on your Journal report. This option is currently unavailable in the General Ledger. However, you can filter the Transaction Type you want to review on both reports.

To customize the columns to include the method you want to see on a Journal report, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Reports menu and choose Journal.
  2. Click Customize button and click on Rows/Columns.
  3. Tap Change columns and click the box for Method.
  4. Press Run report when done.

Another method is filtering the Transaction Type you want to review. Here's how:

  1. Open both reports.
  2. Click the Customize button and go to the Filter menu.
  3. Mark and select the Transaction Type(s) you want.
  4. Click Run report once done.

If you need a higher level of report customization, note that our developers would appreciate your suggestions. They go through a wide range of feedback, and tries to navigate a path forward with accessibility leading.

Their goal is to be purposeful and thorough with the enhancements and product updates to make our program efficient to use. For now, we can't provide the turnaround time if they will release additional report preferences. They work on product enhancements internally.

If you have any product suggestions to our developers about our report preferences, send your request through these steps:

  1. Click the Gear icon and choose Feedback.
  2. Enter your suggestion for our engineers on the Feedback box.
  3. Once done, press Next to send it.
