Question

I would like to set up parent accounts in my chart of accounts to total several sub-accounts. Can these sub-accounts have different currencies assigned to them?

Hello Robyn261,

It's great to hear from you again, and I know how important it is to be able to track different currencies in your chart of accounts when your business needs to. I'd be happy to go over this with you in QuickBooks Online so that you can get to organizing your accounts.

I see you're already familiar with the option to set up parent and sub-accounts in the chart of accounts. That's a good place to start to work on this. In QuickBooks Online, it is possible to attribute currencies to different accounts, however the parent and sub-accounts need to use the same currency. If you try to set up a parent account with one currency and add a sub-account with a different currency, the program will give you this message.

This is a good opportunity to submit feedback to our product development team. Feedback from QuickBooks users is how our team knows what people would like to see when working with the program, and that way they can make informed decisions with the updates they add to QuickBooks Online. Here's how you can share your thoughts to have them forwarded to the development team: How do I submit feedback? To see what updates have been implemented in the program, check out this page, which is updated quarterly: QuickBooks Online Feature and Product Updates

I hope this helps. For your reference, here are some articles about the chart of accounts and multicurrency.
