Question

If I am setting up a bar and Beer store in QB but won't be using the inventory tracker, how do I set it up to register sales of Beer wine liq and food?

Hello pembertonstation,

I know taking over existing businesses can come with many challenges, including when it comes to figuring out the bookkeeping side of things. Asking for some extra guidance is a great place to start, and I want to make sure you have the direction you need for getting the books set up and sorted out the way you'd like and that will be good for the business.

In this case, I strongly recommend speaking with an accountant. In doing this, you'll be able to have a one-on-one conversation to go over the business, which will give them the opportunity to let you know how to best track for this bar and beer store. An accountant will be able to advise you on the kinds of accounts you can consider and, if they know QuickBooks Online, the way to optimize the program's features to keep things simple.

You can even work with an accountant directly in QuickBooks Online so that they can help you in the program itself. With the My Accountant tab, you have the option to invite an accountant you're already working with or to click the Find a pro to help button to look up accounting professionals in your area that know the program.

From a QuickBooks perspective, here are some resources I can share with you about working with areas like the chart of accounts and inventory without using the inventory module.

Don't hesitate to stop by again if you have further questions!
