Invite and add an accountant to your QuickBooks Online account
For a business owner, tax filing can seem overwhelming and intimidating. That's why many businesses turn to accountants to help them keep their books in order, especially at year-end. If you're using QuickBooks Online to manage your finances, you can invite and add an accountant to your account. Here's how:
Step 1: Find the accountant tab
Sign in to QuickBooks Online and find the Accountant tab in the left navigation menu. This is where you'll manage all aspects of your accountant's access to your account.
Step 2: Invite your accountant
Select Invite Accountant and enter your accountant's email address. QuickBooks Online will send an invitation to your accountant, asking them to join your account.
Step 3: Your accountant accepts the invitation
Your accountant will need to accept the invitation you sent them to get access to your QuickBooks account. If they don’t have a QuickBooks account already, they’ll have the opportunity to create a new one. You’ll know they’ve accepted your invitation when their status changes from Invited to Active on the Manage users page.
Step 4: Troubleshooting issues
Inviting an accountant is usually a quick process. However, if you encounter any issues while inviting or adding your accountant to your account, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can take. Here are some common issues and their solutions:
- Issue: Your accountant didn't receive the invitation email.
Solution: Check that you entered their email address correctly. If you did, ask them to check their spam folder. - Issue: Your accountant can't access your account.
Solution: Check that you've granted them access and they’ve accepted by making sure their status is marked as Active in the Accountant tab of the Manage users page. - Issue: Your accountant is having trouble logging in.
Solution: Make sure they're using the correct login credentials and that their browser is up-to-date. If that doesn’t work, they can refer to the steps on this page to help them regain access to their account.
By inviting and adding an accountant to your QuickBooks Online account, you'll be able to streamline your year-end prep and make sure that your tax filings will be accurate and up-to-date.
