Question

Is it possible to exclude CAD sales to better filter reports for customs duty claims of USD sales with the Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA)?

Hi there ArawazaEquipment,

Customizing your reports in QuickBooks Online is a fantastic way to see the specific detail you want when checking out your business' progress. I know how important it is to be able to pull the exact data that you're looking for, so let me point you in the right direction.

It sounds to me like you might have the Canada Border Service Agency set up as a supplier, and that you're entering your customs duty claims as an expense or bill. If that's the case, rather than excluding your sales in CAD, you might consider customizing your report to show only the transactions for a specific Supplier or Product/Service. Let me show you how:

  1. Navigate to a report of your choice. I'm running a Profit and Loss report as a test.
  2. Hit Customize to further filter the report details that you see.
  3. Scroll down to the Filter section and select the checkbox next to the criteria you'd like to filter by.
  4. Use the dropdown that corresponds with what you've selected to choose whether you'd like to filter by All or by a specific combination of items. Choose all that apply. In this case you could filter by Supplier and select the Canada Border Service Agency. You could also filter by Product/Service and select only the item you've set up to represent customs duty claims.
  5. Hit Run report once you've ensured that the date range and other custom details are correct.

Reports are converted to your home currency, so there isn't a way to filter them between CAD and USD since they show all transactions as CAD, assuming that's your home currency. Since I know this would be a handy feature, I suggest submitting feedback to let our product development team know how this would benefit your business. Navigate to the Gear, then select Feedback to have your voice heard.

If you have further questions or if this didn't quite hit the mark, reply to this thread to let me know. I want to make sure you're able to customize your reports as you need.
