locations vs classes

I am trying to figure out the best way to set up our chart of accounts and attempting to decide between using locations or classes.  We operate as a storage company and as a retail furniture company and would like to be able to run reports based on that. While our income streams are kept separate, some of our bills are split between the two companies.

It originally looked like we would be best served by using locations but those split bills would seem to make it better to use classes.

Part of what we are trying to do is also simplify our chart of accounts so that we would not have to have separate accounts for some of the common expenses such as rent, office supplies, etc.
