Question

Looking for a report that will give me all details on each expense. If I have an Expense that included an item, plus HST, I want to see 2 lines in the report?

Thanks for outlining what you're looking for in a report from QuickBooks Online. Reports are useful for helping you to see the details you're looking for, and I can appreciate how having this kind of breakdown would be useful for a business's books. I'll go over the report options with you.

 

In the Reports tab, you'll have the choice to run a number of reports, and there's even a section for expenses specifically. At this time, there isn't a report that will show you a breakdown like you've described, where one line would be the item and then next line would be the sales tax. However, I encourage you to consider running the Purchases by Supplier Detail report, which will give you a breakdown of items on your transactions. To see the related taxes, you can click the small gear on the report, then check off the Tax Code and Tax Amount options.

 

The one thing to keep in mind with using this report is that is can break a single transaction into multiple lines, so paying particular attention to transaction numbers is a good idea if you're using them. If that report doesn't quite work for you, I encourage you to try others to find the information you need.
