Question

P & L by Class isn't pulling in Wage Costs

I have staff entering the class on their timesheets, but that isn't being pulled into the P&L by class. Why on earth would Class show up on the time sheet, but then not be used for the reports? Just to give us a warm fuzzy feeling?

I spent well over 20 hours getting this customer's file set up in QBO, but I'm going to need to keep him in Desktop because this doesn't work. Very upset right now.

Hi there,

It's good you're taking advantage of the Class feature offered in QuickBooks Online. I'll be happy to share more info on this so you can continue doing what you enjoy.

I can see how beneficial it would be to be able to view wage costs on the Profit and Loss report by Class. At this time, using classes on your timesheets is solely for automatically transferring data to your paycheques. Being able to view these wages on the P&L by Class would be a great idea and I encourage you to send feedback about this to our engineers. To send feedback, click on the Gear icon and look for Feedback. New product ideas and improvements are largely based on the feedback we get from users like you.

Let me know if this info helps. Otherwise, feel free to leave a comment below.

In what way does the class transfer onto paycheques? Nothing appears on the paystub showing a class. In any case, this info is obviously not for the employees. The Class selection simply goes into the ether.  Kind of seems like people asked for classes on time sheets, and some lazy programmer added it but didn't make it actually DO ANYTHING.

People have been asking for this since the beginning of QBO. I went to an in person training THREE YEARS AGO and this was one of the main discussion points. I had assumed that since Classes now show on the time sheet, that this was fixed. Nope. Frankly, it's insulting that it appears there, but doesn't do anything. It's also ridiculous to tell customers to use the Feedback button rather than passing that along yourself. It's not my job to work on your software for you.

Hi DynamiteBooks,

I know when something doesn't work the way you expect it can be frustrating and I'd be happy to go over how class works with timesheets.

As my colleague mention in the other thread that since timesheets are non-posting transactions, they don't track anywhere until they're either run through payroll or added to an invoice as billable time. At that point, it'll then hit the books and reports. If you wish you can go over the full explanation provided here.

You can also provide feedback to our technicians by following these steps.

  1. Select the Gear icon at the top, then Feedback.
  2. Enter your comments or product suggestions then select Next.
  3. You'll be provided a list of suggested Help articles related to your comment. You can read through them or select Skip and send message.
  4. From the drop-down, choose the appropriate category, then select Send message.

Have a great day!
