Hello kbarratt,

QuickBooks Online make bookkeeping a more streamlined process. It also saves you time so that you can get back to doing what you love. I'm happy that you're part of the QuickBooks family and want to welcome you to the Community. You've come to the right place for support on this and I'd love to give you a hand.

When posting in the Community, you're able to include as little or as many details as you like in order to receive the best support possible. In this case, a few additional details would help me out. I'll work with what I've got, but if you'd like to reply to this thread again to expand on where you're looking to type a date if I don't hit the mark, I'd love to take another stab at your question.

If you're referring to the Date fields that are located on transaction forms, you do have the ability to type in them. Let's say you're entering a new Invoice. If you click on the Invoice date field you begin typing a new date using the date format that's showing. Select the next field to save your changes. You also have the option to hover over the field and click the Calendar icon to choose the date you're looking for from a calendar.

If this function isn't quite working, I'd suggest clearing your cache and cookies to ensure that the files stored in your browser aren't causing any bugs with the way that QuickBooks works. Here's how: Clear cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online.

These tips are sure to get you back on track using QuickBooks Online in the most efficient way possible. Let me know if you have more questions and please enjoy the weekend!
