Question

Why? CUSTOM DATE RANGE is not always available as a filter option??? Looking for: 3 yr old receipt and I can't select a custom date range, only "ALL" history.

Hello Slynne8914,

I appreciate you sharing this concern about searching through your transactions in QuickBooks Online with me. I absolutely see how an "all" date range wouldn't be helpful when you're looking for an entry from a specific date. It's important to me that you have the tools you need for these kinds of circumstances, and I'm here to help.

Knowing exactly where you're looking in your books that you're not seeing a custom date range option would be helpful for getting you back on track, but I'll get you started with some guidance on searching for transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Whether you're using the mobile app or a browser session, many areas of QuickBooks give you the Custom option for filtering your date ranges. For instance, if you click the Sales receipts option in the mobile app, the Date drop-down menu should include Custom. Likewise, tabs like the All Sales tab through the Sales menu and the Expenses tab should include Custom as an option when you click Filter and adjust the dates given. Here's what that would look like for Expenses.

If these options are what you're using and you're still not seeing the Custom option, I recommend taking troubleshooting steps like clearing your browser cache, using a private browser, or uninstalling and reinstalling the app if that's what you're using. This helps ensure that QuickBooks Online isn't running into any glitches that prevent options from showing up properly.

Another way you can consider searching for your transactions is by using reports. There are a number of expense or sales reports that you can use and then customize to show a specific date range. When the transactions are displayed on a report, you can then click it to open it if you'd like to review the details more closely. Here are some articles that can guide you through working with reports.

When working with reports, please use a browser to see the full range of reports and customization options. The app is a great on-the-go portal for seeing your data, but there are limitations to the information you'll see and the features available.

If you're still having trouble, please feel free to elaborate on where you are in the program and include any screenshots that would help in a response to this thread. I'll keep an eye out for follow-up from you in case you need further assistance!

Have a great day.
