Glad to see you here in the Community, @userbmcdonnell.

I can help create a rule for accounts payable and receivable in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Banking menu, and then choose Rules.
  2. Select New rule from the upper right corner.
  3. Enter the name of the rule.
  4. From the Apply this to transactions that are drop-down arrow, choose Money out or in.
  5. Select the bank account.
  6. Enter the other information needed.
  7. From the Category drop-down arrow, choose Accounts Receivable.
  8. Once done, click Save.

You can do the same to create rules for accounts payable.

I've also added this link for more information: Setup bank rules.

Also, I encourage checking our Help articles page to learn some tips and tricks in managing your QBO account. From there, you can read great articles that can guide you through the steps by steps process.
