The VAT on Sales is too high, I need to edit the figure but cannot see how to do so...

Hi there, marybennett-macr.

Thank you for visiting the QuickBooks Community. I'll be sharing details on how VAT return works in QuickBooks Online. Then, ensure you'll be routed to the right support team to assist you further with this matter.

Once you have filed your vat return, QuickBooks marks it as Mark as filed in the system. That said, there's no direct option to edit a vat return that is already filed in QBO. I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Support Team. They have the tools to pull up your account in a secure environment which we're unable to do it here in the Community. This way, they'll be able to help you in making any changes to your vat return to ensure your books stay accurate.

Here's how to reach them:

  1. Click the (?) Help icon.
  2. From the QB Assistant enter the topic you need help with. You can also enter questions.
  3. Select to connect with a live support agent.
  4. Choose Start a chat to connect with support.

Moving forward, there's an option for Tax adjustment in QuickBooks Online which is entered to adjust the amount in the "Tax Payable" account to arrive at the correct tax liability that needs to be paid to the tax agency. You may open this article to view further details and how to perform the process: What is Tax Adjustment and how do I use it?.

Lastly, you can refer to this article to see information on what happens after you enter a tax adjustment in QBO: Track tax adjustments.
