Question

How can I get a summary of VAT paid on purchases broken down by "Good" versus "Services"? This is required for filing purposes.

Good day, @netprosync

Let me provide you with some details on how to view a summary of VAT paid on purchases in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

To answer your query, we can pull up the Purchases by Product/Service Detail report and customize it to show the VAT paid on purchases. Then we have to export this report to excel to see a comparison of goods and services.

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. In the search field, you can enter and click on Purchases by Product/Service Detail.
  3. Select the date range from the Report period.
  4. Select the Change columns link, then place a checkmark next to the VAT code.
  5. Scroll down, then click the Filter drop-down.
  6. From the Product/Service, choose the items to be included in the first report.

After the customisation, you can now export them to Excel. Then, repeat the steps to compare the goods/services in the first report to the other lists of items in the second report.

Furthermore, you can focus on the details that matter the most to you when you pull up reports in QBO. If you wish to know more about this process, I'd recommend checking out this article: Customise reports in QuickBooks Online. Then, if you want to memorise the report you've customised, feel free to check out this article for the detailed steps and information: Memorise Reports in QuickBooks Online.
