Question

How do I setup VAT correctly in quickbooks. The fields say sales tax which makes me think the company is not setup right.

Hi there, Arthur.

I'm here to help you set up your VAT in QuickBooks Online. Seeing sales tax in your QBO account means you're using a company region that supports sales tax and not VAT.

In QuickBooks Online, Sales Tax, VAT, and GST are the same. Their terms are just different due to specific regions. If you have set up multiple companies for a specific region that supports VAT. You can switch to the appropriate company by going to the Gear icon and clicking Switch Company. Then, choose the company right company that uses VAT as the term.

If you haven't set up a company yet, you'll need to set up your company account again with the correct region. After that, you can now see the VAT menu on your QuickBooks Online account.

I'd like to drop these articles to guide you in the future. Note that these articles' details may vary depending on the region that you're using:

If you need further assistance in setting up your QuickBooks company for VAT, feel free to leave a reply. I'm always here to assist you.
