I'm here to help turn off the VAT in your QuickBooks Online (QBO) so you can get back to working order, @lynn@ace-africa.

In QuickBooks Online once we turned on the VAT feature, there will be no option to turn this off. As a workaround, you can set your default VAT code as Out of Scope of Tax or  No VAT for all their future transactions. To do this please follow the below steps:

Here’s how:

  1. Log into QuickBooks Online.
  2. Go to the Gear icon.
  3. Select Account and Settings.
  4. Click Advanced from the left-hand options.
  5. Under the section, Accounting click the edit icon.
  6. Change Default tax rate selection to No VAT.
  7. Click Save and then Done.

The Out of Scope of Tax is used for non-vat registered businesses. This means, that if you use it then it will not show in any taxes reports in your account.

I'm adding this article for more details: Set up and edit VAT settings, VAT codes, and VAT rates.

Just in case you'll be interested to know the common VAT codes, you can read this article here.

Keep in touch if you need any more assistance turning off VAT, or if there's something else I can do for you. I've got your back. Have a good day.
