Auto Update Sales Tax Rates

Is there a way to make sure that the city /county sales tax rates are always up-to-date in QB? Rate changes in CA get published throughout the year and I want to see if there is maybe an add-on that we can use to make sure these updates happen without us having to look up and change the information.  Thanks.

Hi LLee1,

Running your business means staying on top of any government changes such as sales tax rate adjustments. It's great that you're able to review resources outside of QuickBooks to stay up-to-date on when these changes happen. I'd be happy to shed some light on how this works with QuickBooks Desktop.

When a tax rate changes, it's up to you to go into your Desktop program and manually edit your current tax rate. To do that, click Sales Tax > change tax setup > change the rate (% or amount) of an existing sales tax. Next, select the tax you want to change > Next > enter new number.

I can see how having an add-on service or application to automatically change the tax rates would be really helpful, and would benefit your organization and productivity. At this time, there's no add-on service for this. If this is something you're looking for, let our team know by clicking the Help menu > Send Feedback

Online. We're always looking for ways to improve the product.

I hope this helps clear things up for you. If you're in need of any further assistance, our tech support team would be happy to help get you the answers you need.

Have a wonderful day.
