Question

Can I setup a second tax for a supplies fee in my labour portion of an invoice. I used 5% GST and 5% supplies fee. How do I set this up?

Hi there, Jordan.

Yes, you can set up a second or new tax for your supplies through the Sales Tax window.

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.
  2. Go to the Taxes tab at the left pane, then click on Sales Tax.
  3. Click on Add tax.
  4. Fill in the necessary information including the rates.
  5. Hit Add when finished.

Once done, you're now ready to use the sales tax on your transactions.

Please know that you can only use one tax per transaction. If you want to have two tax rates per invoice, then you may create a service or non-inventory item from your Products and Services to calculate the tax manually. Otherwise, you can add a sales tax category to your products and services. This lets QuickBooks knows what product is taxable and what isn't.

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then click on Products and Services under Lists.
  2. Hit New to add a new item.
  3. Select Service or Non-inventory.
  4. Enter the details.
  5. Hit on Save and close.
