Hi there, @srandall4.

Yes, you can adjust the GST amount after filing your taxes or hitting the File button. I'm here to guide you on how.

First, set up an account for sales tax adjustment. It’s necessary to use the correct account type when adjusting sales tax. Set up an expense account if you need to increase your sales tax due, or an income account if you need to decrease.

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.
  2. Go to the Gear icon, then choose Chart of accounts.
  3. Hit New at the top right.
  4. From the Account Type dropdown, select Income or Expenses.
    • If you need to decrease your sales tax due, set up an income account.
    • If you need to increase your sales tax due, set up an expense account.
  5. Select the account’s Detail Type.
    • Use Sales of Product Income for an income account.
    • Use Taxes Paid for an expense account.
  6. Name your adjustment account (for example, "sales tax due increase").
  7. Tap on Save and Close.

If you have the accounts ready, create an adjustment.

  1. Click on Taxes from the left menu, then select Sales tax.
  2. Find the tax period you need to adjust, then select Prepare return.
  3. Tap Adjust against the entry to be adjusted.
  4. Select the Adjustment date and the Tax rate.
  5. Choose the Adjustment account for adjusting sales tax.
    • Choose an expense account if you need to increase the tax due.
    • Choose an income account if you need to decrease the tax due.
  6. Enter the Adjustment amount.
  7. Enter notes in Memo, then select Save.

Just in case you want to delete the adjustment, open this link as your guide: Create or delete a sales tax adjustment.
