GST/HST Filing

Hi,
I have filed the year end HST of 2022 to Canada Revenue Agency. Then I tried to record it in QuickBooks by clicking 'Prepare Return' in the taxes section. However, quickBooks only showed me the message "These books have been closed. If you need to reopen them to record an earlier payment, enter your password.". It did not create any new journal entry, which I can reconcile with the payment I made to CRA.
Moreover, in the taxes section nothing changed. It is still showing me "Prepare a return", and the 2022-year end HST is still there. The books have not been closed like they were supposed to be. Please Advise.

Hi Accountingstaffing,

 

Once you've completed the steps to open your books, you'll proceed with preparing your return, making sure the filing date and payment dates are accurate.  After you've finished these steps, you'll want to return to your settings and close the books, to ensure no other changes can be made.  You're all set!

Welcome to Community!  I can understand the importance of preparing, filing and recording your sales tax payments in QuickBooks Online.  I'd be happy to help!

 

To ensure you're books are open, follow these steps;

 

1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online as a primary admin or company admin

2. Go to Settings ⚙ and then select Accounts and Settings

3. Open the Advanced tab

4. Select the Edit ✎ in the Accounting section

5. Turn off Close the books

6. Hit Save and then Done

Thank you so much. Do I need to follow the previous steps of preparing a return again to get the payable?
