Question

GST/HST Paid from Wrong Account

I'm reconciling accounts and realize now that my GST payments for Q4/2018 and Q1/2019 were posted from my CASH ADVANCE BY OWNER account instead of my bank account.  QBO won't allow me to edit it like a regular cheque. How do I correct this?

Hi there,

You've reached the right place for help. I can assist you with editing your GST/HST payment so you can get back to doing what you enjoy.

QB makes it simple to stay organized especially when you're reconciling your accounts. In order to edit your GST payment, you'll have to unfile the sales tax return. This process can only be done by accountant users. If you're using QB Online Accountant, follow these steps to unfile your return:

  1. From the left menu, select Taxes.
  2. Select Sales Tax.
  3. Select the Returns tab.
  4. Locate the sales tax filing that you'd like to un-file.
  5. Under the Action column, open the drop down menu to view options.
  6. Select Undo filing.
  7. A window will appear asking Are you sure you want to go back? Review the information displayed and click Undo filing.
  8. A notification will appear next to your open filing, highlighting the date that the return was reopened.

For further steps on this, check out this article here: How do I un-file a sales tax return?

Otherwise, if you're not an accountant user, click the My accountant tab in your QuickBooks. There you can either invite someone by email or use the Find a Pro to Help button to connect with an accountant near you.
