Even when I select tax exempt ( on the GST payment) it will not let me credit it to the GST payable account. Anyone else have this problem?

Hi there zacmc21,

It's important that all your tax payments be correctly entered in your books so that the tax accounts have a correct balance. QuickBooks Online is a great tool able to help you keep track of the taxes on transactions in order to help ease the process of calculating your return. I can provide some assistance with marking your taxes as filed and paid.

If you're trying to create the payment directly from the Banking tab, it will not work as those transaction types can't affect a Taxes Payable account. The way to create the payment in QuickBooks would be to mark the return as filed from within the Taxes tab. There are also instructions on how to record the payment in the system once the return is marked as having been filed.
