Hi there elcharrobroadvie,

When entering your transactions into QuickBooks, it's vital that the correct sales tax codes are selected for each line item. That way, when it comes time to file your taxes, you'll feel confident knowing that the correct amounts have been tracked in QuickBooks, ready for remittance. Let me help you with adding the appropriate lines to your transactions.

If you're referring to the lines on the Sales Receipts you've entered, you can navigate to the Sales menu, choose All Sales and locate one of the transactions in question. Click on the line to open it up. For each line, ensure that the correct sales tax code is chosen in the Sales Tax column. If some are missing codes, or if they've been assigned the wrong code, correct those mistakes and be sure to Save your changes before moving on to another transaction.

If you mean that the Receipts you receive from business Expenses only have sales tax charged on specific items, that's another easy fix. When entering and categorizing a Receipt from the Transactions menu, you'll only have the option to choose one sales tax code to represent the entire transaction, so what I recommend is entering the transaction into QuickBooks first, and using the option to Match to align the receipt with that transaction. You'll want to use the + New button to enter an Expense. You can use the ExemptOut of Scope or Zero-rated codes for lines that don't have sales tax charged to them. Once you've uploaded your receipt, you can hit Match in the Action column to review the Linked Record and Match your transaction.
