Hi userbrian,

QuickBooks Online is designed to save you time with your business bookkeeping. Creating invoices is one of the most common daily tasks for many business owners, and QBO allows you to automate certain aspects of this process for quick data-entry. I'd be happy to explain how you can ensure GST is automatically added to your invoice.

There's two options when it comes to setting up a default tax code. You can assign a tax code to a product/service, or assign one to your customer. Assigning a tax code to a product or service will mean that you'll always have GST assigned to that item, regardless of which customer you're selling it to. Assigning a default tax code to your customer means that every product or service invoiced to them will include GST.

To set up a default tax code for a product or service, follow these steps:

1. Click the Sales tab on the left navigation menu.

2. Select the Products and Services tab.

3. Click Edit next to an item.
4. Scroll down until you see the Tax drop-down menu, then select a tax code for the product/service.

5. Click Save and Close.

To assign a default tax code to your customer, follow these steps:

1. Click the Sales tab on the left navigation menu.

2. Select the Customers tab.

3. Click the customer in the list, then click Edit.

4. Select the Tax info tab.

5. Put a check in the box next to Assign default tax code, then make your selection from the drop-down menu.

6. Click Save.

Simple as that! Now you'll be able to automatically see your GST added to your invoice.

Have a great day.
