Hello SZAcc,
Welcome to Community! Recording your sales tax payments and refunds ensures accuracy in your books. QuickBooks Online provides the ability to set the starting date, so your information remains accurate and aligned with the associated accounts. I would be glad to assist!
Here's how to enter a starting date for your sales tax:
1. Open Taxes from the left menu and then Sales tax
2. Open the Filings tab and hit Prepare return
3. Enter the Filing period, Start date, End date and Filing date
4. Review the information and hit Mark as filed
Note: Your payments to the CRA must be made outside of QuickBooks Online
When a refund has been received, follow these steps to record it;
1. In Sales Tax, return to the Filings tab and select Filed from the All returns ▼ dropdown menu
2. Select Record refund from the drop-down menu in the Action
3. Choose the appropriate account to Refund to
4. Enter the Refund date
5. Fill in the Refund amount
6. Hit Record refund.
