On my purchase order, some items are charged both GST and PST, but some only charged GST. How can I set the purchase tax to record this?

Hi EmilyCa,

Running your business with QuickBooks Desktop means you'll stay organized and save time with your bookkeeping tasks. Sales tax is a necessary aspect of bookkeeping, and it's vital that you're able to properly record these taxes for your records. I'd be happy to explain what you should do if you have some items that need both GST and PST included.

The first step will be to ensure the items that are only taxed with GST are set up correctly in your items list. This will be important for the sake of your purchase order. To check that, click Item List > choose the item > Purchase Tax and/or Sales Tax.

In QuickBooks Desktop, there's a tax code called "S" which includes both GST and PST. You can use this tax code for the items that need to include both tax codes. To set this as the purchase tax on your item, click Item List > choose your item > Purchase Tax > select S.

I hope this helps. If you're in need of any further assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to our tech support team

Have a great day.
