I remit HST annually. The Tax Summary reports shows the HST due quarterly. I just want to see one report for the entire fiscal year. How do I change the report to annual?

Hello Brenda1289,

Welcome to the QuickBooks community! It's great to have you with us and I'm happy to help you sort this out.

In QuickBooks Self-Employed, the sales tax set up runs automatically on an annual period. This means when you select Reports in the left menu and choose the Tax Summary or the Tax Details reports, the options will by default be for a year's time frame. This should allow you to record your taxes correctly for your filing period. Here's a screenshot of what it looks like.

For more information, check out the Sales Tax overview for QuickBooks Self-Employed.

I wonder if you may be using QuickBooks Online, which does allow you change your filing periods per your business needs and register that you've filed and paid your taxes. Because of these parameters, the program will also have an alert message when it's time to file. QuickBooks Self-Employed does not have these features. Here are the steps you can take to change your filing frequency in QuickBooks Online.

  1. Select Taxes from the left menu.
  2. Select Sales Tax at the top.
  3. Click on Manage Sales.
  4. On that page, click the drop-down arrow beside Add Rate.
  5. Select Edit Agency Settings.
  6. Pick the Filing frequency from the drop-down.
  7. Choose Save.

That should get you on your way. Let me know if you have more questions!
