Hello espinosahenry13-,

Thanks for stopping by and bringing this issue of adding the GST sales tax code to your invoices in QuickBooks Online. Don't worry! I'm here to help make sure you're able to get back on track with using that code in the program so that you can know your invoices are recorded correctly.

When it comes to these kinds of situations where a sales tax code seems to be missing, the first thing I recommend is checking that it hasn't accidentally been made inactive. Luckily, this is an easy thing to check on and an easy thing to fix if it was made inactive. Here's how you can check on this.

  1. Select Taxes from the left menu.
  2. Choose Manage sales tax in the Sales tax section.
  3. Look for the GST code. If it has been made inactive, it will have the option Make active beside it on the right.
  4. Choose Make active as necessary.
  5. Click the X to exit the sales tax settings.

Once you've done that, you should now see the GST code restored to the options in your transactions. If not, try logging out and logging back in to see if that helps jog it into place.

If it's not just the GST code missing, but all sales tax codes and they're all active, then there's further troubleshooting I recommend. It could be that some browser or Internet-related issue is causing the sales tax codes to not appear in your invoice drop-down menu, and the following troubleshooting steps can help resolve these kinds of problems.

Give those a shot one at a time, checking after each step to see if the issue is still occurring. If you reach the end of the list and the sales tax code or codes are still absent, I recommend connecting with a member of our support team to do further troubleshooting. They'll also be able to collect any necessary details and bring this up with our engineers if needed. Here are the ways to reach us.
