Hi amandamanastersk,

Welcome to the Community. It's important to correctly record your tax payment in order to keep your books up to date. QuickBooks Online is a great program that gives you the ability to track your sales tax to ensure that the right amount is reported to the CRA. I'd be glad to provide you with some information to record your tax payment.

When you apply taxes on transactions, the système tracks them all in one account, the GST\HST payable account in the chart of accounts. After filing sales tax in QuickBooks, the amount goes to the GST\HST suspense account. This amount will then hit the bank account once you record the payment or the refund.

If you track your sales tax in QuickBooks, you'd need to enter the payment on that filing and match it with the transaction from the bank feed. You can click on Taxes on the left navigation menu> then select Sales tax> you'll be able to see the current return> then click Record payment> verify your information then click Record payment. Once entered, you can refer to this article to match the payment saved in QuickBooks with the one from the Banking tab. If you haven't entered your sales tax filing in the system, you can prepare your return and then follow the steps mentioned above.

If you don't track your sales taxes in QuickBooks, I encourage you to consult an accountant as they have the knowledge to point you in the right direction to record your tax payment to keep your books balanced. If you don't have an accountant, you can find one near you by clicking on My Accountant on the left navigation menu> and then Find a pro to help.

Let me know if you have any questions, I'll be happy to help.
