I am trying to file GST returns for 2019 and 2020. There are unassigned sales tax amounts showing for 2019. How do I clear them off from previous year. All answers I have seen are for current quarter. Thanks

Hi JM1955,

Making sure you track your sales tax correctly is imperative to make sure you file the correct amounts with the government. I can help you with getting your unassigned sales tax corrected.

QuickBooks Desktop makes knowing that your filed your sales tax is correct with the unassigned sales tax amount. If you are seeing an amount in your unassigned sales tax it means you have some invoices or bills that either have no sales tax codes assigned or incorrectly assigned. To fix this you would need to go through your transactions to find which ones were not created properly and correct them. I suggest reaching out to your accountant as they are trained to quickly find these transactions and make corrections where needed. If you don't have an accountant don't worry, we have your back. You can find one in your area on our find an accountant page.

Once they're corrected you can follow these steps to file your sales tax: Go to the Sales Tax menu, then select File Sales Tax.

Have a great day!
